108521. Bessie Beatty. August 8, 1946. WOR, New York City. Sponsored by: Maggi Bouillon Cubes, Dolly Madison Ice Cream, Rockwell Chocolate. 10:15 A.M. What is important to women? Bessie's answer to this is, "To be useful." Three guests discuss working opportunities for women. Edward Taft (perhaps "Tuft" Personnel Manager, RCA vacuum tube plant), Richard Brockway (U.S. Employment Service), Dorothy Mills (Chief flight stewardess of Pan American Airways). Dorothy Mills mentions that Pan Am lost 5 out of their 62 stewardesses in the past year (to marriage). She estimates that there are a total of 250 women flying for U.S. airlines as stewardesses and describes the rigid requirements to be a Pan Am stewardess. Mr. Taft has interesting insights into the manufacture of vacuum tubes. There are 1 1/2 minutes of silent grooves for an unheard commercial insert. Bessie Beatty, Bill Beatty (William Sauter), Richard Brockway, Dorothy Mills, Edward Taft. 43:51. Audio condition: Excellent. Otherwise complete.
