56099. CBC Wednesday Night. January 28, 1953. CBC Trans-Canada net, Toronto origination. "The Trial Of John Horne Tooke". Sustaining. "A drama based on the events leading to the trial, and the verbatim transcript of the trial itself." In 1794, men could be arrested in England without charge. Tooke was arrested, fined and imprisoned in 1778 for attempting to raise funds to aid the American "victims" at Lexington and Concord. He was tried for treason, was later elected to Parliament (in 1801) but was not allowed to sit. An extremely well-done drama, of unusual length.
