19020. Charlie and His Orchestra. A series of twenty-four musical selections recorded in Berlin during 1940 and 1942. "Charlie" (Karl Schwedler) led a fine swing band on these records, pressed at 78 rpm, with vocals by "Charlie" in English. The music was standard swing fare of the period, but the lyrics were something else again. In almost all cases, the words were clever anti-Roosevelt, anti-Churchill, anti-Jewish parodies. Perhaps intended for air-play from Berlin during propaganda broadcasts, a fascinating look at a light-hearted Nazi hate campaign. Charlie and His Orchestra, Karl Schwedler (vocals and "Charlie's" real name). 70 minutes. Audio condition: Excellent. Complete.
