64855. Dedication Ceremonies Columbia Square Memorial. August 29, 1940. KNX, Los Angeles. Sustaining. A plaque is dedicated at the CBS Columbia Square studios, saying "the film industry began on this spot in 1911." While some would dispute that, the site was indeed the location of the first motion picture studio in Hollywood. Don Thornburgh accepts the plaque on behalf of CBS, a member of the Los Angeles Junior Chamber Of Commerce also speaks.
