103995. Dedication of the WNYC Greenpoint Transmitter Site. October 31, 1937. WNYC, New York City. The 1000 watt transmitter is to operate on the Brooklyn waterfront. An application is to be made to the FCC to increase power to 5000 watts. A micro-ray system is to be used (possibly a studio-transmitter link). it's the only one in the country and one of two in the world (the other is used by the Pope). Hizzoner then conducts the Police, Fire and Sanitation Departments bands. Tommy Cowan (opening announcer), Raymond Ingersoll (Borough President of Brooklyn), Gene Marshall (closing announcer), James Cunningham (conducting when the Mayor isn't), Julia Peters (sings the national anthem), Frederick Kracke (Commissioner of Plant and Structures), The New York City Police Department Band, The New York City Fire Department Band, The New York City Department Of Sanitation Band, Fiorello La Guardia. 12:55.
