A far out story about a note in Jim's laundry that leads to a formula for an antidote to poison gas! The dates and program numbers of the "Jungle Jim" broadcasts are possibly correct up to this point. Afterwards, the dates and program numbers become more problematical due to several factors. 1. The discs themselves were dated by month and day only, with the year omitted. The year could be derived counting upward from a "known" date and program number (such as this broadcast), and assuming 52 programs per year. There are several possible "smoking gun" incidents within the story line itself which can be used as "date anchors." One program mentions "the first day of Spring." Another mentions that the war with Japan had just ended. It must be kept in mind that the programs were possibly recorded in groups, several weeks in advance, to allow time for the discs to be pressed and distributed to the stations. 2. While many of the following progams were recorded directly from disc, the labels themselves enigmatically indicated, for example, "For broadcast the week of June 1." In addition to omitting the year, it wasn't clear what day of the week the shows were to be aired. Since the sponsor was distributed on Sunday as "The Comic Weekly," the show should air Sundays. This is an incorrect assumption as the show was known to air Saturdays and weekdays in some cities. The "June 1"-type-date sometimes seems to be the middle of the week (or the Sunday of another year). 3. About 1978, a well-meaning amateur researcher put together a log of "episode titles" and adventure themes, using the comic strip titles as published in Pittsburgh as a source before March 15, 1942, he admits "creating the story titles myself" after that, not a scholarly admission. There is no indication that the comic strip and radio show story lines were in synch during or after the war, leading to possible misinformation about program numbers or dates. . 13:30.
