The recordings are introduced by Donald Ritchie, Associate Senate Historian. Major General Reber testifies about David Schine's application for an army commission. Senator McCarthy questions General Reber about his brother, who McCarthy says was discharged from the State Department as a security risk. Secretary of The Army Robert Stevens and General Walter Smith (Undersecretary of State) also testify. Part of Donald Ritchie's commentary has been deleted, the hearings are complete as broadcast. A session of contentious questioning regarding David Schine and the work done before and after his induction. Near the end of the recording, Senator McCarthy is put in his place by Joseph Welch. Welch asks, "At long last, have you no sense of decency?," generating a round of applause. Rebroadcast on August 24, 2000.
