110816. The Cavalcade Of Baseball. June 12, 1939. CBS net. Sustaining. The broadcast originates from the Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, New York. The program starts with a baseball game between "The Excelsiors" and "The Knickerbockers," using the rules of baseball as it was played in 1850. Mel Allen and Arch McDonald do the play-by-play. The game is barely recognizable compared to the contemporary game. Dizzy Dean, Honus Wagner and Eddie Collins choose up sides for a real "old" old-timers game. The game is announced as the first time American League and National League members played against each other. When Arch McDonald reads the lineups, it sounds like a roll-call of baseball greats. Arch McDonald twice calls "Mel Allen," "Mel Ott." Mel Allen, Arch McDonald, Hank Greenberg, Walter Johnson, Dizzy Dean, Honus Wagner, Eddie Collins, Johnny Vander Meer, Bill Klem, Cookie Lavagetto, Ty Cobb. 46:54. Audio condition: Very good to excellent. Incomplete.
