72034. The Coronotion Of King George VI. May 12, 1937. NBC net coverage, BBC origination. Sustaining. NBC fills with organ music until the feed from London begins (for about ten minutes). NBC doesn't switch to London until about 32 minutes into the program. The coverage, beginning at 3:45 A.M. (eastern time) includes the departure of the king and queen from Buckingham Palace, the coronation itself from Westminster Abbey, the king speaks to the Empire, John Masefield (the poet laureate) recites his poem, written for the occasion. The actual crowning takes place about two hours, fifty minutes into the broadcast.
